Connie Parks's blogRegarding Required readings for Health and WealnessOK all if anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. I would love to read the articles that Mary has assigned but does anyone know the link to retrieve them online or even where to retrieve them from? Let me know cause this old brain isn't working well today to figure it out. Thanks to all, Connie EthicsIn my position at the Salvation Army the Ethics that we go by are pretty much the National Association of Social Workers Ethics. They consists of to help people in need and to address social problems, to persue social change especially with those that are vulnerable, to treat each person with caring and resptful manner, and to respect the religion and diversity of our clients, and to also respect the confidentiality of our clients. Knowledge as a CommonsI tend to look at internet for information regarding Human Service issues. I have never looked at it as a commons issue till this weekend’s class. I found a site that I use all the time for information and it happens to be the American Psychological Association site http://www.apa.org/. This site is fairly easy to move around and it isn’t just for psychologists to use, it is accessible to everyone. You can find Psychologists, information on a subject, articles, and all other types of information. In fact you can get more information on this site than going to the library and trying to find the exact same article. I feel this is a site for all Human Service workers to have as a commons. Project WikiJust a note to let everyone know that I like the website Rick set up. It is actually easy to use YEAH!!! To introduce myself and what I am interested in for the class.
Well Hello my name is Connie Parks and I want to know more about Steve Marshalls class. I understand this is just to touch on all areas of statistics but I am excited for the class to begin. As far as Arlen's class I am kind of reserved cause I hate excel and I do hope to get a better understanding of it and how to use it toward web design. Leadership Interview with Lee BrosckoI chose Lee Buscko as a leader to do my interview with because he helped start the youth program here in grays harbor county. He is an advocate now and goes to juvenile justice committee meetings to help youth at risk and other youth with getting an education and a job.The Youth Program of Grays Harbor County is serviced through ESD 113 and their goal is to serve low income and disabled youth to receive an education and a job. Just in the last few years they have served over 600 youth. I asked Lee these Questions: Q) What is the organizations values? Meeting for Saturday at GHCHello Rick, GHC is still closed as of today but are we going to still have our final meeting on Dec. 8th. Since we had this bad storm I am just wanting to make sure.
Thanks Connie The MSCEIT Test The MSCEIT test also known as the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test, which was developed in the 1990’s, is based on the concept to measure peoples performance tasks and how well they solve emotional problems. This was developed from the Intelligence testing tradition. This test has been used by the Air force to find recruiters, businesses use this to find employees, and it is used on youth to determine their developmental stage. There are four branches to the test: Perceiving emotions - the ability to understand emotions through objects, Facilitating Thought – ability to generate, use, and feel emotions as to communication, Understanding Emotions- the ability to understand emotional information, and Manage emotions – the ability to be open to feelings. I found that there is very little information on this test, however I also learned from one of the reports that this test is not very credible because the data on this test has not been made public so no one can do an independent study on it to determine its credibility. Also found that this test can be used to discriminate against employees because if the employer doesn’t like the answers given for what ever reason it can be used against the employee. This fits into what we have been talking about in chapter 4 because of the bias’s of the test. It is a self reporting test and depends on interpretation. Regarding todays class and Lynchberg Virgina part 2May 6, 2002 CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA -- Last Thursday, Virginia became the first state to officially apologize for sterilizing thousands of people with disabilities during the last century. This is just part of the apology which to me is not enough but here is the link for you to get to to see it in full http://www.inclusiondaily.com/news/advocacy/vaeugenics.htm#050602 I want to also let you all know that a historical marker was put up in charlottesville, Virginia where Carrie Buck was born and the states apology. http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/internet/library/historical/eugenics/5-epilogue.cfm
Regarding todays class and Lynchberg VirginaHey just wanted to let you know that I found an article on the net regarding Lynchberg. How a pair of disability rights advocates scored the first state apology for eugenics, and what they have planned next. http://www.ragged-edge-mag.com/1103/1103ft1.html I thought this article was very interesting. |
