1789 – Founding – femme sole, femme covert
1838 – London antislavery conference - feminist consciousness
1848 – Seneca Falls - first public all for woman suffrage
1861 – Civil War starts, suffragists suspend suffrage activism
1866 – 14th Amendment - word “male” excludes women from equal protection
1869 – movement splits over 15th Amendment, NWSA and AWSA formed
1872 – US v Anthony
1878 – Anthony Amendment first introduced in US Senate
1892 - movement reunites to form NAWSA, Inc.
1900 - last state enacts some form of married women's property laws
1900-1910 - rapid growth of NAWSA, a handful of state suffrage victories
1913 - National Woman's Party breaks away
1914 - WWI begins in Europe
1917 - US enters the war; NAWSA joins war effort but refuses to suspend suffrage effort
1918 - Armistice; 18th Amendment
1919 - NAWSA Inc. dissolved, transfers assets to League of Women Voters
1920 - 19th Amendment, Sheppard-Towner Act, Cable Act
1923 - Equal Rights Amendment introduced into US Senate
After 1925 -- First Wave enters "doldrums" that last until 1963.
