olyland

Back on the mainland, for a couple weeks, going to develope photos tomorrow. Relax today. Its always intesting to be temporarily removed from an expierence, it gives perspective and perhaps will rejuvenate me to continue. Weather is nice, spring is definetly here, cherry trees are blossoming, and campus has a little more life to it. But i'm headed down to s.california for spring break week for some full on sun emursion and perhaps some more island adventures- i think my girlfriend and i are gonna check out the channel islands, or at least cornada.
I'm also working on building a wooden kayak while i'm here, which i just began- and won't finish till i get back- but its been really nice to just listen to music and work on my boat with the homies.

hockey and driftwood

i find it hard to keep moving, day by day, when travelling, so i've been spending good chunks of time in different locations over the last week+. So far Ive been hugging the eastern shore of the island, camping in some really impressive parks on the water. Writing and reading has proven to be my way to fill the time- i picked up some fun books in nanaimo, ones that seem to relate to my present expierences, like Anatomy of a Rose, and a book about kayaking from bc up through alaska. I spent several days on one particular beach that has great views of the coast range mountains, on the mainland, and the foggy islands of the georgia straight. There i collected shells and driftwood, photographed them before i removed them, thinkin of developing the photos of where they layed onto them. Also got a good, up close map of this beach from the marine map store in nanaimo, and am trying to figure out how to map these objects.
ive become facinated with hockey. people are obsessed with it up here. I went to a little pub in parksville to watch the canucks on tuesday, they won, and people were lively, friendly, and wasted. not me of coarse...

what else.. my shutter on my camera keeps getting jammed, so im using my automatic camera most of the time- which is annoying cause it doesn;t do what i want it to, mostly for up close shots. i've having a productive and fun time, though, and it sounds like most of you are, which is awesome! alley

Victoria

Well- I ended up leaving 4 days later than expected, and missing the ferry, but, I'm here! The internet is really expensive at this place, so i'm going to wait till later in the week for a real entry, but... victoria is beautiful, spent the day walking and eating- so much good asian food- and in the royal bc museum which was dissapointing. I don't intend on spending much time here in victoria- i'll be headed up north tomorrow. bye
