The best interviews are never captured
When I first started going to bread and roses me and Jessica had just finished our interviews with Eric Wiener and Liz Rapozie. They were so smart and they knew so much about homelessness from working down there. It was really nice if I must say to be working with Jessica and Eric even though Eric was working behind the camera this time and not with what I once called the Borders of Identity dream team with some of our other friends as well that had all worked together last year at about the same time for a similar type of project. I really liked Eric’s interview so much even though he looked awkward and it was hard for people to understand Eric because he moves around a lot and comes across cocky sort of. People are quick to pass a poor judgment on Eric Just because of the way he chooses to behave and the way he just is a bit. Beyond all the Eric Wiener stereotypes he really is a smart guy that cares about people. I once said that Eric Wiener is an example of what a person can do when they come here at evergreen. Eric now works at the Drexler house of hospitality and was interning when we interviewed him. The interview was only 15 minutes and he left things out he meant to say some of his wording was confusing and in the end we only used Lizz and only a short bit of her interview. I almost wanted to use more things that she said cause she said so many good things. She is such a hard worker and is so good at helping people at her two jobs one being one of the Writing Center tutors at Evergreen and working at Bread and Roses advocacy center. Those are I think the most respectable jobs and Lizz is so kind hearted at helping the people who use those places. And many would think that those places are completely different environments but they actually are similar as I learned. A lot of people that use the writing center have learning disabilities as well as people that use the Bread and Roses advocacy center. And I know to some it is not right for me to compare but I must because it is really a tough world that we live in and if you have a difference in the way you learn information it can have a devastating impact on how you function in a society. From my experience as those who know me well begin to understand that life is nothing but difficult on all levels and sometimes it never seems that your ever going to make it. your expected to do things a certain way that might now really work for you and if you voice that complaint you feel like your being lazy and making excuses. It wasn’t much of a surprise when Lizz talked about learning disabilities with us as a contributing factor of homelessness. Eric Also has a learning disability. One thing I always noticed is his habits are hard for him to control however he is lucky to have the privilege and parents that he has to help him become what he is today. It’s the same for me. As long as I can make it through this rigid educational system I know I can make a difference for myself and for others. Eric one day while I was driving him somewhere really got into a talk with me about addictive personalities in the homeless community. He began to really get into it and discussed with me all these details as he was grabbing things in my car and fidgeting but somehow it was able to get him to really talk about things that he had so much knowledge and experience on. He really got into it but for some reason was not able to on camera quite the same way. It was too bad because he really could say a lot of good things if only he had the same confidence on camera and had a way that he could have something in his hands that would keep him focused on something He could have added to our Documentary. But only when talking out side a class room or a lighted room and camra eric will always be a real person alive with real thoughts as he will say it as he sees it.
