Preservation of Digital Documents
We need to create a meaningful system that utilizes metadata to its fullest extent. Every document that is either digitzed, a digital object, or a document describing a physical object needs to be cataloged in a way that is uniform with standards for metadata description. This will help the internet become more standardized and attain something akin to Borgman's idea of a Digital Library.
Interestingly enough, she doesn't believe that libraries as they exist now, swarming in books, will become obsolete with the eventual predominance of a Global Information Infrastructure. Her idea is what she calls co-evolutionary, which is somewhere between the Evolutionary ideal and the Revolutionary. Revolutionary, as she defines it, is the idea that technologies will supplant the older inventions, i.e. digital libraries will eradicate the need for physical locations and books. "Evolutionary" is when people will use both digital and non together. Co-evolution is based on her notion that technologies are used and taken up based on needs, and how and when and if people will use them is difficult to predict. This sounds pretty accurate.
