digital history

how cool is it that i can read my book for class online on summit? just click on the link and there it is, the full text, right there on my lovely 25 inch widescreen monitor. no more flipping to the back or the end of a chapter to check a footnote. i just click! and there it is. hypertext really could change the world. i have been converted.

I have too many books on my bookshelf

I am moving in two weeks and i have realized what a pain in the ass it is going to be. For some reason I feel compelled to never get rid of any books. ever. not only do i have every book i ever bought for a class (no, i could never borrow one from the library, i must OWN IT!) but i feel the urge to gather all of the books being discarded by my friends as if they were starving orphans. i must give them a home! this is what this book has made me think about. i love my books. and i did love this book, for the most part. however, I found that i longed for more context, more history in which to place the evolution of the book and the bookshelf. The obsessive detail explained the more immediate influences on the changing technology, but i wanted to learn more about the other, less obvious influences.

V for Vendetta

Well I totally forgot to post this week. Whoops! So I am doing it now. First off, I have to say, we are watching the movie today in class but last night my boyfriend watched it in MY apartment so there was no escaping it and I watched it too. Now i have to watch it twice in a row. Bummer. I was not too impressed. But it did get me defending the book which made me realize how much I must have liked it.

Deaccesion Art

My mom just sent me a link to this site. It seems like such an awesome project and one right up this program's alley.
