MIG Response to IT Strategic Plan Academic Priorities from 11/03 mtg. Dear Anna - We, in the Moving Image Group, have been reviewing the draft of the Strategic Information Technology Plan and developed the FIRST DRAFT of two paragraphs that could be used in a section on Guiding Principles. While this is from the Moving Image Group, we broadened the language to include all aspects of the curriculum that uses communications technologies and computers. In discussing this over several meetings, questions continued to surface about the development of the plan and the use of the term “Information Technology or IT.” We know this is a term that is in common use these days, but what does this really cover? We wondered who asked for the development of this plan and who is pressing for it? Will this plan be used to implement resource allocations, and how will that process happen? Will it supersede our existing equipment prioritization processes? As a small faculty group, we would like to contribute to the process of developing a plan but would like to restate and underscore our request for broad faculty input through Planning Units or the Faculty Meeting. Our colleagues may want to revise and/or add to what we have written. Sincerely, Laurie M. Meeker Member of the Faculty, Film/Video Moving Image Group Coordinator
