Admin Computing Priorities

Tony handed out the updated priorities list. His own top priority is hiring to fill the two open positions in his division.

Tony listed the other projects that are at the top of his priority list.

Fletcher asked about how we might slice the priority list in a way to make it easier to interpret.

Tony suggested that the first couple of pages of the list (the darkest grey) are the projects that are being addressed “this year.”

Andrea said that the PCHEES re-hosting (#113) can move off the top priority list.

Fletcher said that the watermark on transcripts (71) can be combined with the RAA from Banner (156).

Tony said that the in progress list roughly represents the work for Admin Computing for the next 6 months.

There was some discussion about how this group (Admin ITCH) can best engage in its work. Clearly, we are expected to make priority recommendations based on institutional needs, rather than unit needs and wants. It is also true that voices from the unit level should be encouraged, to help prevent hidden, parallel project development outside the ITCH’s knowledge.

Other questions about how we generate and manage priorities came up. For example, how does a medium level priority that is not scheduled for attention rise on the list? Aaron said that development in isolation leads to stagnation due to unforeseen maintenance demands. In other words, when end users who have gained facility enough to envision and build a solution for themselves do so in isolation, they invariably reach out later to the IT staff to support and maintain this solution. One challenge for the ITCH is to promote and encourage development within the ITCH process.

Archiving of Banner data (32) will need to be addressed fairly soon. Tony does not see this being begun this year, but it should be on the list for 2008 or 2009.

Fletcher and Tami will talk about an auto-population of holds that could be employed for immunization holds (77).

Number 73 comes off.

Banner workflow (78). Another demo is in order. Andrea said that the potential for streamlining regular processes is substantial. Demo perhaps in Summer.

Identify representative for next Academic ITCH meeting Jenni Minner volunteered.

Set agenda and identify additional participants for next meeting Next meeting (and perhaps the one after that) we will continue on the priorities list, so folks are encouraged to work on their arguments for this, or any other favorite project.
