Below is a list of reasons why TSS has requested the Media Maintenance Tech position. It was put together by TSS Manager Al Saari. I had drafted one of my own, but found Al's list to be more complete:
(a) This Media Maintenance Technician position is needed in order to provide reasonable service for media, photo, 2-way radio, KAOS-FM and other electronic systems. Timely maintenance of these systems is essential for media, academic programs, Facilities maintenance staff, Police Services, and other faculty/staff. The utilization of media and 2-radio communications systems is increasing with advancements in technology in academic, 2-way radio and life/safety areas.
(b) The college has added 62 electronic classrooms in Seminar II and Library Modernization B and C wings with video projectors in most of those rooms. The classrooms have elaborate media/computer systems with digital AMX and Extron control systems. (NOTE: Our tech most involved in electronic classroom support indicates that the he's spending nearly 2/3 of his time supporting classrooms and lecture halls now, up from 15-20% prior to Sem II coming on line -- bc).
(c) The original plan, I believe, with the addition of Seminar II was that the 5 Lecture Halls would be deactivated. However, they are still on line and require TSS support on an on going basis.
(d) Furthermore, the funded staffing level for TSS media maintenance technicians has dropped from 3.5 FTE to 2 FTE over the past few years. Tung has moved to nearly 100% on computer work and Rob has moved to administration.
Therefore, in order to provide the level of technical support that is expected for academic programs, Facilities maintenance and Police Services radios, life/safety systems/emergency operations and FCC requirements in radio communications it is imperative that this position is funded 12 months for the 06-07 fiscal year.
Another Note: The request for a .5 FTE is about 2 years old. Since Sem II came on line and our work load has increased because of it we are now requesting funding for a full FTE for this position. -- BC

I had inadvertently missed moving item M to the top of the list as a highest priority. Peter then added the three items that were to be merged at the top of the list which I believe are related to M. I would like some help in getting these items merged (A, B, C) on the new list and then approval from the group on deleting M when the new item has been drafted (A, B, C merged).
