- Academic ITCH Mission and Objectives
Mission seems ok, but we should write objectives for the year
How do we reconnect with the faculty and students so their needs are represented? (Greg)
How does this group function so that it is objective problem solving oriented
Clear agendas with goals attached (and follow up action items)
Prioritize what the issues are for the group
Streamline process (greg) for objectives
Set schedules for each objective for this year. These objectives are;- Objective 1 Develop strategies increase communication and participation with students and faculty (eoy)
- Objective 2 Create prioritized project list of budget priorities to forward to the Core ITCH (December meeting?)
- Objective 3 Make recommendation for annual ITCH funds (List by November) Amy will create page, Peter will e-mail solicitation for project ideas from the community
- Objective 4 Air and discuss other issues as needed, small part of each meeting
- Review Strategic Plan
Core has been revising strategic plan over the summer and this should be the driver behind requests for projects
- Facilitation/coordination 07/08
Rip and Paul have agreed to co-coordinate for 07-08
- Office 2007 Implementation
Short-term - Patch to allow Office2007 documents to be seen by office2003. There is also a free utility to convert files, this should be added to all client machines.
Long-term - what is our strategy? Set meeting winter quarter to discuss strategies for dealing with this.
- Campus printing problems and desires
Group exists to discuss printing issues on campus and future directions for managing/paying for printing on campus
Thought given by Network Services to allow printers to be on seperate vlan so that only print servers can see the printer so folks can't print directly to an IP or short name
Group to convene to discuss the opportunity of a mac print server on campus. Greg will be the facilitator of this group and will meet with stakeholders to come up with some plans for dealing with this (mostly academic folks - Acad computing, CAL, media services, others?)
- Authentication for wireless to get access to Filemaker (Aaron k.)
Looking to upgrade the core switch in second round of the biennium (Joe) that could help do authentication with wireless
What do we want wireless to be? Which services should we be supporting? Should be clarified by C&C on uses, and future strategies
Should we suggest VPN's?
We should submit set of issues around networking issues for academics to bring to James (Aaron to coordinate) and will report back to this group in November.
