1. Reported back the Core decisions on IT budget priorities for 09-11
2. Current Network Issues/updates (Joe P.)
- Experimenting with throttling different groups down (wireless - 2.5Mbs, Public 2.6Mbs)
- Dynamic partitions - Joe is experimenting with this so we're ready for next quarter's experiment. equitably divides bandwidth by IP.
- Spammer problem (the bounce will saturate the network just as much as ones that got through) Joe has turned off bouncing message (auto-replies, out of office replies). Recommending IronPort spam filters for the campus but this is expensive!
3. Office/OS Upgrades - (Rip)
- Vista - Not until SP 2 comes out
- Leopard - Yes - since it has hardware compatibility issues
- Office2007 - Not until summer 2009
- Office2008 - Not for now
It was generally agreed that TSS needs to convey their plans for rollouts of these products to make sure that we are providing consistent support for the institution. Electronic Media staff will work with Academic Computing and TSS to make sure that the podiums and av classrooms have compatible conversion kits applied to be able to read files in all the various new formats (when possible!).
Addendum: Rob Rensel provided the following information after the meeting - We can install any version of windows with new machines we purchase, although the college only officially supports XP
