In reading some of the text regarding the network, I recalled reading an interview with the head of the MIT network. I was really struck by the way that he spoke about the network as the backbone of the school's communication etc. I feel like we should really try to get to the point where we can say some of the things about our network, that MIT can say about it's network. Specifically, it might be worth looking at the concept of a "cost recovery network". Would it be possible to turn the network into a source of revenue? Maybe even asking different parts of the college (specifically housing) to chip in on the cost?
The other thing I was thinking about is the idea of putting up logos to denote where there is WiFi access on campus. Wired recently ran a contest to design a WiFi hotspot logo. I have an email in to the copy-editor to try and see if we can get a copy of the logo. Anyone willing to put them up can count on my help.

While I totally get that all the buildings are made of poured concrete and other semi-dense materials, is there really any reason that we don't have better cell phone coverage? How hard would it be to put a repeater on top of the CAB/Lib/CRC/$Bulding in order to get some relatively decent cell phone coverage. I think this is a huge issue because so many students rely on their cell phones as a primary line. I myself have only Skype and my beloved Motorola! Even when I have decent coverage on red square, I still get dropped calls.
Apropos, if I can't send a PhoneCam video to Aaron Powell of the massive after-hours foam parties in the OSLab anytime I want, then the system clearly isn't serving my needs.
