Dear NMSers (click on "read more" for full text):

-- Reading response papers are now due Tuesday nights by 10pm.

-- FYI - As there are only 8 reading responses to do, those who have not posted for
Weeks 2 and 3 are already missing a 1/4 of the required response papers.

-- If you still do not have a book yet and/or are having difficulty posting to the website, please contact Isaac or me - we are here to help!

-- Groups have been formed but we will need to do some minor re-arranging to place those who were absent last week.

For Final Project Presentation Q&As:

(click on "read more" to see all questions)

When describing the process for making your piece, consider addressing some/all of these aspects:

  • Is digital technology a component in your piece? What kind(s) and how is it integral to the work?
  • What parts of the process were familiar to you and which were new for you?
  • Were there any obstacles and how did you overcome those?
  • Did you have to do any creative problem-solving and how did you accomplish this?
  • Did the resulting piece meet/exceed your expectations?

Switch to digital TV generates static

On Feb. 17, 2009, Americans who watch free, over-the-air broadcasts via an antenna will see their analog sets fade to black. Converter boxes alone may not keep the sets humming.

(some "interesting" bits:)

The switch will bring many benefits, including clearer pictures and sound to those who can get them.

"It would be absent Katrina's death and destruction," Swann says. "Then again, you start taking away people's TV, and who knows what will happen?"

One annoying word we forgot to mention in class...

Booyah (Defs courtesy of urbandictionary.com)

1) An exclaimation [sic] meaning something very good has just happened or is about to happen. Made popular by a Crash Bandicoot ad.

ex. "You and me. Booyah, grandma. Booyah!

2) Booyah is a word often used as an expression. It can be said when you have been given something you have wanted, or it could be when something good happens in your life, or it could just be a word to say when you are bored.

-------------

Oh yeah, and here's what we did in class today, after everybody bailed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suu9j7noS5A

Booyah!
-i

ps - What about the example for the first definition. I didn't make that up, thank god. So bewildering!?!?

Bring out the virtual torches and pitchforks! Here's an article about Mob Mentality on the Internet!

"Online mobs can shame lawbreakers, but do they go too far?"

I wonder what Enzensberger or Baudrillard would have to say about this?
