Hi! My name is Amanda Hakan and I hail from the crazy city of lights, Las Vegas, NV. I began attending this beautiful place in the Fall of 2006 as a freshman. My time at Evergreen have been an amazing experience. I have met people who have strongly influenced my life and will be there to support me for as long as I am alive. I have grown to really love the Pacific Northwest, being one of my hardest adjustments (considering it is the polar opposite of the Southwest). I keep myself very active and involved, holding three job positions (including this one), volunteering at the Capital Theater and various community gardens around town, working at least 40 hours a week on my art work, along with having a social life! I have plans to train for and hopefully obtain a radio show on KAOS (cross your fingers for me). I am a health nut, I really try to emphasize food as an important component to life. Music is one of my biggest passions, I could talk about it for days. I love to cook, play guitar, spend quality time with my friends, travel, and experience life!! I look forward to providing insight into what life as a college student is like.

My name is Ashley and I am a Junior at Evergreen. Throughout my Evergreen career I have studied Environmental Science, Zoology, Evolutionary Biology, and Natural History of the Puget Sound area-- quite a broad range right? Well I am proud to say that my studies at Evergreen have already benefited me in the work force.

This summer I worked for the Washington State Department of the Fish and Wildlife as an intern, helping with substrate study and an amphibian study where I got to apply the skills I have learned at Evergreen (Specifically natural history, botany, statistics, and zoology) to what we were doing in the field-- it was great!

Any who, currently I am in a program called Evolving Communication where I am learning more about evolutionary biology and lingustics. Curious how those two things could possibly be combined? Check out the Evergreen Academic Program Pages! I am having a great year so far and I look forward to sharing my experiences with you all, so stay tune!

Greetings, friends! My name is Cameron, and I am a freshman here at Evergreen. I’m really into art, music, guitars, cars, hiking and backpacking, dancing, and eating fine foods. As of now I think I’d like to be an art teacher when I grow up, but I don’t really know. While I enjoy studying art, philosophy, and psychology, I’m also interested in studying things like business, leadership, politics, and even yoga.

I was born and raised in Fullerton, California, which was sunny pretty much year round, but I really love the northwest. The climate, the people, the awesomely fresh air, the view of the forest from my dorm window; what’s not to love?

I feel that life is for the living, and Evergreen is proving to be very encouraging of this idea. I get to study what I really want to study and I am not in the passenger seat of my education. I also enjoy the strong community here, as I am a very socially outgoing person. What I love most about Evergreen is that we have all types of people and personalities here, and they all seem fit in nicely together in this environment.

Hi all,
My name is Dana and I am a senior at Evergreen. I started at this school as a freshmen and I have enjoyed my experience immensely. I am currently enrolled in the Evening and Weekend studies and Evergreen and I’m taking a Writer’s Workshop course and a Principles of Biology course, along with a fun 2-credit ballet class that meets once a week. I love my schedule and I am just realizing the beauty of taking evening classes.

I grew up in Wenatchee, Washington (the apple capital), which is in the central part of the state. Moving to the west side of the state was quite a different experience for me. I’ve enjoyed all of it, although I could do without the rain.

Evergreen has been great to me and I can’t wait to tell you all about my adventures!

¡Saludos a todos! My name is Holly and this year I am a junior at Evergreen. This is my first year at Evergreen as a transfer student from Seattle and I have really been pleased with my experience so far. My focus is Spanish language and Latin American Studies, and spring quarter I am doing an individual learning contract that I entitled Spanish Literature, Writing, and Translation. I lived in Argentina for six months studying Spanish in language immersion programs, and I traveled to Chile and Uruguay, so I will be reading texts from Latin American authors from those countries in Spanish and working on English translations of poems and short stories. I'm also part of the Evergreen Singers, the choir here on campus, and spring quarter we will be singing music from the 1950s!

Outside of the classroom I enjoy watching movies and discovering new music. I also love photography, reading for pleasure, and taking long walks through the woods in Evergreen's backyard. I am a total Spanish geek, so having a conversation with someone in Spanish will pretty much make my day.

¡Bienvenidos a The Evergreen State College!

I'm a fourth year Greener, hailing from Claremont, CA. As a senior, I'm taking my last year to synthesize the broad range of subjects that I've traversed in the last three years. I began my college expedition with the Ancients, who have remained faithfully at my side through my adventures into ethical philosophy, medieval art, modernist poetry, and William Faulkner, just to name a few. This quarter, I'm enrolled in Literature of the Americas: Brazil and the United States, an all-fiction program devoted primarily to novels. Next quarter, I'm doing an Independent Learning Contract—I'll be delving into drama, reading everything from Greek tragedy to modern experimental pieces. But I won't just be reading plays, I'll be co-producing one as well. I co-coordinate The Phrontisterion, Evergreen's one and only Classical Studies club, and this year we're putting on The Birds, a hysterical comedy by Aristophanes. By combining my interest in literature, drama, and the Classics with my need to brighten up the winter with a comedy, I'll put a fitting capstone on my Evergreen education, which has taught me above all that all areas of study are connected.

My name is Maxime Rene and I am in my last quarter here at The Evergreen State College. I grew up in Los Angeles and found out about Evergreen from the book 40 Colleges That Change Lives and knew it was the school for me when I came and visited when I was a senior in high school. I am enrolled in 8 credits this quarter and am really looking forward to graduating in June. I am in a 4 credit French cinema class, as well as a 4 credit independent contract on black and white photography. I think this quarter is going to be a really fun one, considering I am majoring in French and love photography. I have been a student at Evergreen since the Fall of 2004, which was my freshman year and have taken European history classes, American literature classes, as well as spending a quarter abroad in France.
